Worcester, Mass. - February 20, 2014 - Junior Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) captured the three-meter title at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Thursday evening after registering a score of 508.80.
After the first day of competition, the Pride lead the seven team competition with 147 points, followed by MIT (22), and WPI (100).
Lewis added his name to the long list of Springfield College men's divers to stand atop the NEWMAC Championship podium. This marked the seventh-straight year that Springfield has claimed the top spot on the three-meter board.
Springfield had four of the top 10 divers in the competition, with Lewis' score of 508.80 leading the way. Michael Card (Fairless Hills, Pa.) scored a 431.95 to take fifth, directly followed by Pat Smith's (Niskayuna, N.Y.) sixth-place score of 411.80. Nick Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) rounded out of the Pride's scoring with a mark of 292.25 to place 10th.
In the pool, Springfield's 800 free relay finished fourth as the team of Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.), John Vatkevich (Wrentham, Mass.), Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.), and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) combined to swim a 6:55.96.
