New York, N.Y. - January 18, 2014 - Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.) and Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) were both strong for the Springfield College women's swimming & diving team despite a 164-136 loss to host New York University on Saturday.
Pennington won three individual events for the Pride as she captured the 200 free in 1:56.57, was victorious in the 50 free with a 24.35, and touched first in the 100 free in 53.30.
In the 100 and 200 breaststroke, Medeiros placed first posting times of 1:08.41 and 2:28.52, respectively.
The Pride opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, with Medeiros, Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.), and Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) with a time of 1:52.41.
Greco was victorious in the 100 butterfly touching at 59.08 and placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.33.
In the 500 free, Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) took first clocking in at 5:17.48. Phillips also went on to place second in the 1000 free after touching in 10:51.96.
The Pride also had second place finishes with Poole in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.33 and with Dyjak in the 50 free with a time of 25.46.
In the diving events, Springfield’s Jen Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) took first on the three-meter board with a national-qualifying score of 308.32. On the one-meter board, Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.) placed second with a national qualifying score of 283.12, followed by Thompson’s national qualifying score of 279.24.
The Pride closed out the meet placing first in the 400 free relay after Poole, Dyjak, Phillips, and Pennington combined to swim a 3:40.04.
Springfield will travel to Babson next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
