Opening Day of New England Division III Track and Field Championships Kicks Off With Decathlon

Springfield, Mass. - May 1, 2014 - Springfield College served as host for the opening day of the 2014 New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon.

Of the 11 student-athletes who competed on Thursday, two were representing Springfield College in William Ferguson (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) and Michael Hiltz (Essex, Conn.). After the first day, Ferguson sits in ninth place with 2,739 points, while Hiltz is in 11th after scoring 2,621.

MIT's Adrian Samsel has distanced himself from the field and leads the competition with 3,557 points.

Ferguson tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 6-00.50, while Hiltz's best showing came in the long jump as he took fifth with a leap of 19-04.25.
