Allen, Bishop, and Hay Headed To 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Allen, Bishop, and Hay Headed To 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Springfield, Mass. - May 18, 2009 - The trio of Cherelle Allen, Kelsey Bishop, and Nikki Hay have all qualified and will compete in the upcoming 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 21-23 at Marietta College.

Allen, a freshman from New Britain, Conn., will compete in the long jump at the national meet. Allen currently has the 10th longest jump in the country this year, a leap of 5.75m (18-10 1/2) that she reached as she won the event at the New England Division III Championships.

In her final collegiate meet, Bishop will be in the hammer throw competition. The Warwick, R.I. product is ranked 14th in the event out of 19 competitors as she qualified with a toss of 50.88m (166-11) earlier this year at the Springfield Invitational.

Hay, who was named the New England Women's Field Athlete of the Year during the indoor season, will enter the NCAA Championships in her speciality, the triple jump. Despite battling a nagging injury over the past several weeks, the Norwalk, Conn. native recorded the second-longest jump in the country over the weekend at the ECAC Championships. Her jump of 12.22m (40-1 1/4) makes her one of only two athletes in the competition to have automatically qualified for the event. Last year, Hay finished third in the triple jump at the outdoor championships with a jump of 11.98 meters, or 39-3 3/4.

The complete list of qualifiers is available on the following Web Site: www.raceberryjam.com/index0d.html. This Web site is maintained by Apple Raceberry Jam, a computer services company that provides results for track and field and cross country meets.
