Headley And Hay Highlight NEWMAC Yearly Outdoor Awards Babson Park, Mass. - April 27, 2010 - For the second-consecutive year, Steve Headley was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Nikki Hay was honored as both the NEWMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year and the NEWMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Headley, the reigning national champion in the 100 meter dash, had an outstanding weekend at the NEWMAC Championships. The senior won broke a pair of NEWMAC records as he won both the 100 and 200 meter races. By running 10.58 seconds in the 100, he first broke a record of 10.72 seconds that had been held by Lance Wagner of Wheaton since 2001. Headley then broke his own record in the 200, which he set just last year. He ran a time of 21.28 seconds two win this year, compared to the 21.78 he ran last season.

Hay has had nothing short of a phenomenal senior season for Springfield. After winning the national championship in the triple jump in the indoor portion of the season, Hay swept the yearly awards as she was selected as the NEWMAC Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Hay repeated as the top track athlete in the conference, in addition to taking home top field athlete honors this season. At the NEWMAC Championships, Hay won the 100 meters (12.19), 200 meters (25.24), long jump (5.58 meters, 18-3 3/4), triple jump (11.37 meters, 37-3 3/4), and was part of the winning 4x100 meter relay (47.97). She qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships in each event.
