Men's Golf Joins the NECC as an Associate Member

Generic Logo SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- September 1, 2008 – The Springfield College men’s golf team has joined the New England Collegiate Conference as one of two new associate members.

Also coming on board as an associate member is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Springfield and MIT join Becker College, Daniel Webster College, Elms College of nearby Chicopee, Mitchell College, and Newbury College to form the sponsoring members of the New England Collegiate Conference for golf.

With the addition of Springfield and MIT, the NECC now has seven competing teams and is eligible for an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Championship beginning in 2010-11, following a mandatory two-year waiting period by the NCAA.

“We are very excited to have two quality golf programs and institutions join our conference as associate members in men’s golf,” said NECC Athletic Director’s Council Chair Louise McCleary.

The NECC will host its first-ever men’s golf championship October 11-12, 2008 at Chicopee Golf Club. The event will be hosted by Elms College.

Springfield, under head coach Joe Eadie, will open its 2008 fall season by traveling to the Skidmore Invitational in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Sunday-Monday, September 7-8.
