Springfield, Mass. - March 8, 2011 - Ron Fusco and Joe Grippi will be competing in the 2011 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 11-12 in La Crosse, Wisc., at the La Crosse Center.
Fusco will head to the NCAA's for the first time in his career. The senior from Billerica, Mass. earned an automatic berth into the national tournament after winning the 285 lb. title at the 33rd Annual New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championship at Trinity College on February 27. Entering this weekend with a 29-7 record, Fusco will take on third-seeded Judson Connell of the Merchant Marine Academy, who is 30-2 this year.
Grippi will be making his second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships after qualifying at the 133-pound weight classification a year ago. This season, the Bedford Hills, N.Y. product was chosen as a wild card selection at the 141 lb. classification after placing second at the NEWA Championships. Owning a record of 18-6, Grippi's first round opponent will be Kevin Bokoski of Luther College, who is 16-7 this season.
This season, Springfield captured the NEWA Championships for the first time since 2006 as it was led by NEWA Coach of the Year, Daryl Arroyo.
