This is the inaugural year for the New England Collegiate Conference. Five of the nine NECC full members sponsor men’s golf, while MIT and Springfield are associate members of the New England Collegiate Conference.
The MIT Engineers received three of the seven first-place votes in the 2008 NECC preseason poll. The Engineers are led by head coach Marty Burke. MIT ranked seventh among all NCAA institutions in the 2008 National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) collegiate power rankings.
Elms College and Springfield College tied the runner up position with 40 points and each had two first-place votes. Mitchell College nabbed the number four spot with 22 points. Becker rounded out the top five with 19 points.
Teams received seven points for every first place vote received, six points for second place votes, five points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
