Malone, Chessen, and Stalsburg Earn NEWMAC Honors in Men's Soccer

2010 NEWMAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Honorees Springfield, Mass. -- November 9, 2010 -- Three Springfield College men's soccer players -- Ryan Malone, David Chessen, and Eric Stalsburg -- received post-season accolades earlier today from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Malone received a top honor, the Rookie of the Year.

A freshman midfielder, Malone (Chicopee, Mass.) not only claimed the conference's Rookie of the Year honor, he also was named second team all-conference. In his first season at Springfield, Malone was an impact player for the Pride on the offensive side of the ball. Malone found the back of the net nine times during his freshman campaign, ranking second in the conference in goals. Malone made his makers count as he was responsible for five game-winning goals this year, the most in the league.

In addition, Chessen, a sophomore defender from Edison, N.J., and Stalsburg, a junior forward from Old Saybrook, Conn., were named second team all-conference for the second-straight season.

Chessen had another impressive season anchoring the Pride back line. The sophomore defender was the cornerstone in the Springfield defense that posted eight shutouts on the season. Stalsburg once again an important offensive threat for the Pride as he recorded six goals and an assist in his third season. When the Pride started off the season with four consecutive wins, Stalsburg played a major role, scoring three goals in those contests.

The Springfield College men's soccer team completed a successful year, finishing 12-8-1 overall. The squad also reached the semifinals of the post-season NEWMAC Tournament, where it lost to eventual conference champion Babson, 1-0, last Saturday.
