Wrestling Ranked #23 Nationally, #2 in New England; Eight Pride Members Named in Top 8 in 10 Individual Polls

Mike Fish Bristol, R.I. -- December 13, 2011 -- As a team, Springfield College remains ranked #2 in the New England Wrestling Association poll released yesterday. And among individuals, SC currently has eight team members ranked in the Top 8 among 10 individual rankings. Three individuals are ranked No. 1, including Joe Grippi at 141, Ryan McGilvray at 157, and Derrick Longo at 165. Nationally, SC moved up several spots to #23.

As a team, here is how the NEWA Division III teams are ranked through December 12.

Among individuals, the following Springfield College wrestlers are ranked in the NEWA polls. Ranked #1 are junior Joe Grippi (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) at 141 pounds, senior Ryan McGilvray (Manalapan, N.J.) at 157 pounds, and junior Derrick Longo (Ardsley, N.Y.) at 165 pounds.

Grippi has also been elevated to a #8 national ranking in the 141-pound weight class, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Brute-adidas Individual Rankings.

In NEWA, ranked #2 is junior Nicholas Camera (North Massapequa, N.Y.) at 184 pounds. Ranked #3 is junior Michael Fish (Middletown, N.J.) at 174 pounds.

Ranked #6 are two more members of the Pride. They are sophomore Tom Casper (Bergenfield, N.J.) at 125 pounds, and senior John Gabordi (Ledyard, Conn.) at heavyweight. And finally, ranked #7 is freshman Eric Hamrick (Collingswood, N.J.) at 149 pounds.
