Pennington and Thompson Earn NEWMAC Weekly Honors
Springfield, Mass. - January 13, 2014 - Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.)
and Jen Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.)
earned honors from the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) after stellar performances for the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team this weekend.
Pennington was named the NEWMAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Pride as a triple-event winner in its dual meet at Middlebury. The senior swept the 50 free (24.14), 100 free (53.27) and the 200 free (1:57.60) on Saturday. She also swam on the first place 400-free relay team with Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) and Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.), who won with a time of 3:40.19.
Thompson earned her second NEWMAC Women’s Diver of the Week honor after a standout performance on the boards on Saturday. The senior swept both diving events in the dual meet at Middlebury, taking the 1-meter board with a score of 284.10 and the 3-meter board with a score of 300.25.

John Taffe enters his 25th season in 2013-2014 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III.Read more

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions. Read more
