SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 1, 2006 – Springfield College sophomore striker Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.) netted two goals en route to a 5-0 Pride shutout over MCLA.
In the first of the day’s two contests, Westfield State rebounded from yesterday’s loss to hold St. Joseph (Conn.) scoreless in a 4-0 rout. WSC freshman midfielder Meg Gearin (Groton, Mass.) led the Owls in scoring, finishing of two of her four shots. Westfield improved its overall record to 1-1.
St. Joseph freshman goalkeeper Cait Whitman (Prospect, Conn.) tallied four saves and allowed all four WSC goals. St. Joseph ends the weekend with a 0-1-1 overall record.
In the final game of the SC Invitational, Springfield netted five goals from four different scorers to finish the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record. Other Pride scorers include juniors Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.), Kristen DiTommaso (Ocean, N.J.), and Jennifer Johnson (Agawam, Mass.). Senior tri-captain Annemarie Goodwin (Springfield, Mass.) tallied two assists in the Pride effort. Sophomore goalkeeper Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.) recorded the shutout.
Springfield College tallied 14 shots on goal to MCLA’s zero. SC also held 10-0 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Starting goalie for the Trailblazers, Kristean Kissel (Champlain, N.Y.), put aside six SC shots, and allowed four goals. MCLA limited the Pride to just one goal in the second half, when back-up goalkeeper Ashley Collins (Rochester, Mass.) notched three saves. The Trailblazers drop to 0-1-1.
