Men's Indoor Track & Field Ranked 13th Nationally in USTFCCCA Poll

Steve Headley Springfield, Mass. -- February 10, 2010 -- The Springfield College men's track & field team is ranked 13th nationally in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division III poll released earlier today.

Springfield is credited with 43.99 points in this poll, just behind 12-ranked McMurry (45.23), and just ahead of 14th-ranked Montclair State (43.44).

For Springfield, defending national champion Steve Headley is the only automatic qualifier in the country in the 55 meter dash, while Kevin Coyle has provisionally qualified in both the long and triple jump.

The top 10 is as follows: North Central (Ill.) (175.42), UW Oshkosh (138.78), SUNY Geneseo (138.74), UW Lacrosse (114.09), UW Stevens Point (91.48), UW Whitewater (87.54), Trinity (TX) (73.15), Case Western Reserve (65.80), Southern Maine ((62.09), and Carthage (49.69). In 11th is TCNJ (46.01).

Other New England schools listed included Wheaton at No. 17 (with 39.89 points), and MIT at No. 22 (with 30.99 points).

Up next for Ken Klatka's troops, Springfield will compete at the Valentine's Day Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 13.
