Men's Lacrosse Handles Lasell, 19-4

Springfield, Mass. - April 7, 2010 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team scored 13 unanswered goals to start the game as it cruised past Lasell College, 19-4, in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League contest on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field. Joe Heney and Austin Orsini each tallied five points in the win for the Pride.

Springfield now stands at 4-4 on the season, including a 2-0 mark in league play. The loss drops the Lasers to 1-8, 0-2.

In its first two conference games of the season, Springfield has outscored its opponents, 40-6. The Pride outshot Lasell, 47-18, and won the ground ball battle, 44-22. Springfield also held Lasell to just 1-for-7 on man-up opportunities.

Heney totaled a goal and four assists, while Orsini netted a hat trick to go along with two helpers in the win. Harry Bernstein scored a game-high four goals for Springfield, while Kyle Gable, Joe Macchi, Shawn Runyon, and Jarrid Johnson all recorded two goals. Mark Eaton won 11-of-15 face-offs and scooped up seven ground balls, and Marc Martinez earned the win in goal as he made five saves, allowing three goals in 41 minutes of action.

For the visiting Lasers, Brian Yepez scored two goals to lead the way, while Jon Elia and Adam Foss also each found the back of the cage. Anthony Erz picked up five ground balls as he won 8-of-17 at the "x", while Eric Walsh was charged with the loss after he was pulled with 29:36 remaining in the contest after giving up 13 goals and making seven saves.

Springfield led 6-0 after the first 15 minutes and led 13-0 with 3:50 left in the first half after Kyle Sopko converted an Orsini feed. Yepez finally broke the visitors scoring drought as he scored off a Sam Wilcox pass with 2:53 left in the second to make it a 13-1 game heading into the half.

After Foss made it a 14-3 contest with 8:43 on the clock in the third, the Pride rattled off five unanswered strikes, the last coming from Bernstein with 8:21 remaining in regulation, to take a 19-3 lead. Yepez closed out the scoring on the night with an unassisted goal at the 5:23 mark.

The Pride return to action on Saturday morning when it travels on the Massachusetts Turnpike for a conference clash with MIT. Face-off is scheduled for 11:00 am.
