Women's Gymnastics Opens Season With A 177.075-165.075 Win At RIC

Providence, R.I. - January 11, 2014 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team opened the 2014 season with a 177.075-165.075 win over host Rhode Island College on Saturday, taking first in every event. Springfield was led by Lauren Pocius (Wallingford, Conn.) who won the all-around competition.

Pocius earned the top spot in the all-around with a score of 36.750. The junior won both the bars (9.450) and the floor (9.375). Pocius also finished second on the vault with a score of 9.325 and third on the beam with a score of 8.6.

Kristin Feliu (Elkridge, Md.) also won for the Pride, finishing first on the vault with a score of 9.4. Rachel Mattison (Andover, Mass.) took third in the event with a score of 9.250. Mattison also took second on the bars (8.950). Nicole Caradonna (Lynnfield, Mass.) finished third on the bars with a score of 8.9.

Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.) was another winner for Springfield, taking first on the beam with a score of 9.4. The junior finished second in the all-around with a score of 34.150. The Pride also had a pair of second place finishes from Alexis Stiefel (West Chester, Pa.) on the beam (9.2) and Jenna Croteau (North Kingstown, R.I.) on the floor (9.125).

Up next, Springfield will host Brockport on Tuesday, January 21 at 4:00 p.m.
