Men's Swimming and Diving Tops URI, 162-133

- The Springfield College men's swimming and diving picked up a 162-133 win at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon. Matt Fitzgerald
paced the way for Springfield as he swept the diving competition.
Leading the way for the Pride was junior Andrew Blakesley as he was the top finisher in the 200 freestyle (1:47.20), 100 freestyle (48.87) and 500 freestyle (5:03.07). Teammates Ryan Mackstutis and Brian Way each won two events for the Pride. Mackstutis took home first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.64) and 200 breaststroke (2:20.12), while Way took the top prize in both the 100 butterfly (53.66) and 200 butterfly (1:59.53).
In the diving competition, senior Matt Fitzgerald had an outstanding day as he swept the diving competition. Fitzgerald scored a 242.78 in the one meter competition and followed that up by posting a score of 254.18 on the three meter diving board.
Springfield men’s swimming will return to action next Saturday, November 21, when they host both Keene State and Wheaton at 1:00pm.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014.
