Springfield, Mass. - November 12, 2013 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team handled visiting Smith College, 171-121, in a midweek dual meet at the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Tuesday evening.
The Pride opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, with Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Nicolle Stracqualursi (Dedham, Mass.), Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.), and Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) cruising to a win in 1:54.20.
Springfield had the top three finishers in the 200 yard butterfly, led by Delaney Dyjak’s (Ludlow, Mass.) winning time of 2:21.74. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.) took first with a time of 1:08.44, while Nicole Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) was victorious in the 50 yard freestyle after touching at 26.18.
In the diving events, Springfield once again was strong as it had the top three scores in the one meter board, led by Jennifer Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) with a mark of 262.65. Thompson also scored the most points on the three meter board with a national-qualifying score of 282.07.
The Pride swept the first three spots in the 200 yard freestyle, led by Ashleigh Monroe (Southbury, Conn.) with a time of 2:01.47.
Phillips touched first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:04.71, while Mary Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) motored to first place in the 100 yard free with a time of 56.14. Phillips also recorded the fastest time in the 200 yard IM, clocking in at 2:14.64.
Allison Heschle (Brick, N.J.) took first in the 200 yard backstroke recording a 2:21.09, and Pennington took another individual event in the 500 yard free after touching in 5:27.63. In the 100 yard butterfly, Poole recorded another win with a time of 1:01.74.
The Pride closed out the meet touching first in the 200 free relay after Masayda, Dyjak, Greco, and Pennington combined to swim a 1:41.61.
It's a busy week for the Pride as it will host Williams on Friday evening before taking on both Keene State and Wheaton on Saturday.
