Women's Gymnastics Ranked Ninth as a Team Academically in the Nation

Women's Gymnastics Ranked No. 9 Academically in the Nation Springfield, Mass. - July 21, 2010 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team was recently honored for the its success in the classroom by the The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). The Pride recorded the ninth-highest team grade point average in the country last year as it finished with a GPA of 3.4830.

Of the 98 collegiate women's gymnastics teams listed by the NCAA (all divisions), Springfield placed ninth nationally overall in the 2009-2010 GPA rankings.

A total of 67 student-athletes earned 4.0 grade point averages for the 2010 academic year and 509 earned Scholastic All America status as a result of grade point averages of 3.5 or better for the year.

Springfield College had 11 members of its team among the 428 who earned Scholastic All-America status. Ashley Moreck was one of the 67 student-athletes across the nation who earned a perfect 4.0. Brittany Baglow posted a 3.97 in her first year at Springfield, while Marissa Rusin finished with a 3.92. The other Scholastic All-America selections included Megan German (3.80), Jeanna Bradle (3.71), Kristina Lantos (3.63), Audrey Lastra (3.60), Cora Chando (3.58), Nicole Panzarino (3.55), Ericca Castagna (3.51), and Lizzie Sartell (3.50).

The NACGC/W is the national association for women’s collegiate gymnastics coaches. The association seeks to actively manage and develop the sport of women’s gymnastics at the collegiate level and works with the NCAA and USA Gymnastics in order to provide the best possible experience for student-athletes.

Southern Utah earned the National Academic Team Championship with a 3.8923 composite team GPA, bolstered by four individual athletes with perfect 4.0's for the year. Last year's academic champion, Southeast Missouri State, finished in second with a 3.8905, while Wisconsin LaCrosse took third with a 3.6600.
