Kelleher Named NEWMAC Player of the Week in Field Hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – October 1, 2007 – Springfield College junior Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Player of the Week (NEWMAC) in field hockey after she led the Pride to a 3-0 week.

A native of Chatham, Mass., Kelleher picks up the honor for the second time this season. The Pride, ranked 17th in the country, defeated two teams ranked in the top 15 last week. Springfield defeated No. 14 Williams in overtime on Wednesday before upsetting No. 8 Cortland on Sunday afternoon. Springfield is currently 9-2 on the season.

In the Pride's 3-2 overtime win against No. 14 Williams, Kelleher tallied a goal early in the second half to tie the match at two.

In Springfield's 6-0 victory over conference-foe Clark on Saturday, Kelleher notched a pair of goals to lead the offensive charge over the Cougars. It was the Pride's first conference victory of the season.

On Sunday afternoon, Kelleher registered two goals and an assist as the Pride upset No. 8 Cortland, 4-3. Kelleher recorded a goal and an assist in the first half before her tally with 19:04 in regulation would hold up to be the game-winning tally.

For the season, Kelleher leads the team with 32 points off 14 goals and 4 assists.

Kelleher and the Pride return to action when they host Smith on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. on Stagg Field.
