Women's Gymnastics Captures Third at ECAC Championships

Brockport, N.Y. - March 13, 2010 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team finished third at the ECAC Championships on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Brockport as it registered 182.775 points as a team. In the qualifying meet for the upcoming NCGA Championships, which will be hosted at Springfield College on March 26-27, Brockport, SUNY Cortland, and Springfield will all represent the East in the meet, with individuals from other squads also represented.

The top three teams advanced to the NCGA's and Brockport took home the ECAC crown after totaling 184.875 points. SUNY Cortland took second with 184.100, while the Pride finished in third with 182.775. Ursinus College (182.325) finished fourth, just missing a team berth. Wrapping up the team scoring on the afternoon was Ithaca College in fifth (180.125), Wilson College in sixth (169.950), and Rhode Island College in seventh (154.750).

Springfield was in first place after two rotations with a team score at the time of 94.400. The two events, however, were vault and floor exercise, consideredthe Pride's best. SC had a score of 47.325 on vault, and 47.075 on floor.The Pride finished up with a balance beam score of 44.100, and an uneven bars score of 44.275.

Among SC individuals, freshman Brittany Baglow (Amherst, Mass.) was best in the all-around, finishing fifth with a score of 36.700.

Senior Jeanna Bradle (New Milford, Conn.) had a good dayby finishing in a tie for sixth in the vault with a 9.550. She tied with senior teammate Ericca Castagna (Topsfield, Mass.), who also scored a 9.550. Bradle alsoplacedeighth in the bars with a 9.075.

Sophomore Megan German (Spencer, Mass.) took ninth in bars at 9.000.

In the balance beam, senior Audrey Lastra (New Milford, Conn.)placed fifth with a 9.075, while Baglow was sixth at 9.050.

Finally, in the floor exercise, senior Kayleigh Davis (Whitefield, N.H.)had one of her team's highest scores of the night with a 9.550, but that was only good for ninth. Baglow had a 9.450, and sophomore Carly Flynn (Franklin, Mass.) a 9.425 in that event.

In one other note of significance, Springfield College Assistant Women's Gymnastics Coach J.J. Ferreira '08 was named the ECAC Division III Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2010 season.
