Cantrall Tabbed NEWMAC Player of the Week in Women's Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - October 15, 2007 --Delaney Cantrall has been chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Week (NEWMAC) as she led the women’s soccer team to a 2-0 record the past week. The Pride has an overall record of 12-2 thus far in the 2007 campaign.

Cantrall was also named Springfield College's Female Maroon Club Athlete of the Week as well.

Cantrall has anchored the Pride defense that has been nothing short of outstanding this season. Springfield pitched two more shutouts this season and brought its total this year to 10, including five-straight. Over the past week, Springfield topped MIT 6-0 at home before edging Smith 1-0 on Saturday.

The last time that the Pride allowed a goal at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex was on September 8 in a 2-1 win against Brandeis. Cantrall and the Pride have held opponents scoreless for the last 475:01 at home.

On Saturday, the Santa Paula, Calif. native converted a penalty kick with just over six minutes to play go to give the Pride a 1-0 win at conference-rival Smith. It was Cantrall's second goal of the season.

Cantrall and the Pride look to continue their success on Tuesday evening at home against Mount Holyoke. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
