WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - September 21, 2008 – The Springfield College golf team finished 16th out of 20 teams competing this weekend at the Williams Invitational.
The Pride, which recorded 641 strokes as team, was led by Greg Levings (Averill Park, N.Y.) who played the par 71, 6,489 yard course at seven-over on the weekend. Levings, who finished tied for 13th in the Invitational, shot an opening round 76 before firing a 73 to finish with a two-day total of 149.
It was Middlebury that shot the best round of the day (and tournament) with a 290, and it was good enough to force a playoff against the formidable Skidmore team as both ended with a 596. However, Skidmore managed to take the event in a close tie-breaker round. St. Lawrence (598), Trinity (605), and Hamilton (606) rounded out the top five, with Salem State tying Williams B with a 608.
Rounding out the Pride's scores on the weekend were Craig DiFranco's (East Longmeadow, Mass.) 154 (78, 76), which tied him for 38th place. Michael LaJoie (Enfield, Conn.) finished tied for 87th with a two-round total of 176 (84, 83). Bryan Anderson's (Enfield, Conn.) 172 (86, 86) tied him for 93rd in the competition, while teammate Junior Balogun (Springfield, Mass.) finished in 97th with a 91 and 85 for a total of 176.
The Pride will now prepare for its conference championships, the NECC Championships at Chicopee CC on the weekend of October 11-12.
