Meg Young Honored By The NEWMAC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 21, 2004 – Springfield College’s Meg Young is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week in women’s cross country, announced today.

Young, a junior from Hurley, N.Y., finished 13th overall out of 255 runners at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass., last Saturday. Despite the poor weather conditions, she covered the five-kilometer course in 19:02, and was the only NEWMAC runner to place in the top-20.

In the Pride’s first meet of the 2004 season, Young placed third at the Amherst College Invitational (Sept. 11). It was her best finish since her fourth-place showing at the 2003 NEWMAC Championship Meet (Nov. 1). Young also finished 29th at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships (Nov. 15) and 63rd at the NCAA Division III National Championships (Nov. 22) last season.
