Men's Soccer Places Four On All-Conference Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 6, 2001 -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced that Springfield College seniors Derek Bostic, Stacy Daniels, Nick DeMico and Michael Russo were named to its all-conference team in men's soccer.

Bostic, a native of Naugatuck, Conn., was one of the conference's stingiest goalkeepers. In the NEWMAC, he ranked second in wins (nine) and third in goals-against average (1.32). Bostic, who started 17 of the Pride's 18 games, also recorded five shutouts.

Daniels, a midfielder from New Milford, Conn., was the Pride's second-leading scorer with 11 points (5g, 1a). Daniels tallied three game-winning goals, including the game-winner in SC's 1-0 overtime win over Clark in the first round of the conference tournament (Oct. 31).

DeMico, a back from Hamden, Conn., anchored a defense that accounted for six shutouts and allowed only 24 goals in 18 matches. DeMico started 15 games.

Russo, a forward who hails from Holbrook, N.Y., led the conference in points per game (1.88) and goals per game (0.76), and tied for tenth in assists (0.35). Russo, a two-time NEWMAC Player of the Week (Oct. 8 and 22) topped the Pride with 32 points (13g, 6a) and registered four game-winning goals.

The Pride (10-8) is the fourth seed in the ECAC Division III New England Championship that begins on Nov. 7. Springfield plays host to fifth-seed Gordon College at 1:30 p.m. at Brock-Affleck Field.
