15 Men's Gymnasts Earn All-American Scholar Athlete Honors

Keith Stumpf Springfield, Mass. - July 30, 2010 - 15 members of the Springfield College men's gymnastics team were recently selected as All-American Scholar Athletes by the College Gymnastics Association. As a team, Springfield had the fifth-highest grade point average among 15 teams in the country, totaling a 3.225.

The University of Michigan, which won the 2010 NCAA Men's Gymnastics National Championship, also took home the academic crown as well with a team GPA of 3.388. Temple finished second with a 3.384, followed by Penn State (3.309) and Stanford (3.261).

10 student-athletes from Springfield earned First Team All-American Scholar Athlete recognition after attaining at least a 3.5 grade point average. Those athletes included Alex McCabe, Joe Carlson , Josh Fox, David Tilley, Tyler Robertson, Kyle Bartgis, Jimmy Pezzino, Tim Monaco, Ian Crider, and Keith Stumpf.

The five student-athletes who garnered Second Team All-American Scholar Athlete status, which was achieved by having a GPA between 3.2 and 3.499, were Josh Spencer, Jeff White, Kevin Miner, Kelvin Soares, and Roger Moulton.
