Mersereau Wins a Tennis Match at the ITA's

Doug Nickerson Williamstown, Mass. -- Sept. 25, 2011 -- Kyle Mersereau of the Springfield College men's tennis team reached the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional men's tennis tournament at Williams College over the past weekend.

In the first round of the singles tournament, Mersereau of Brunswick, Me. defeated Jeff Wensberger of Connecticut College, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 in a super tiebreaker.

Mersereau, a freshman, then went on to fall to Ned Mandel of Trinity, 6-3, 6-3.

Springfield's other top singles player, junior Ben Burnap (Westerly, R.I.), lost in his first round match-up with Dylan Page of Williams, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the SC team of Zach O'Leary (Westboro, Mass.) and Doug Nickerson (Falmouth, Me.) lost in their first-round match against Matt Bettles and Timmy Berg of Bates College, 8-0.
