The 1994 team owned a 12-2 record and defeated New York Institute of Technology, 15-12, at C.W. Post's Hickox Field to claim the NCAA Division II National Championship. Springfield opened up that season with a 7-4 win over Limestone, which coincidently won this year's NCAA Division II title.
Under the direction of head coach Keith Bugbee, Springfield boasted seven student-athletes who garnered USILA Division II All-America status that season, including Keith Flanigan, Bob Felt, Brad Jorgensen, Sean Quirk, Mark Anastas, Nick Savastano, and Mark Theriault.
Bugbee led Springfield to its 19th appearance in the NCAA Championship this season, and was joined in the national tournament by three of his former players from the '94 team that are now in the Division III coaching ranks. Quirk's Endicott team faced Theriault's Keene State squad in the first round, while Bugbee squared off with Western New England, who was coached by John Klepacki.
