Wellesley Defeats Women's Soccer, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 2, 2004 – Springfield College junior back Courtney Goetz (Flemington, N.J.) tallied her first goal of the season but Wellesley defeated the Pride, 3-1, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer match this afternoon on Brock Affleck Field.

Wellesley senior midfielder Anna Stanton recorded two unassisted goals for the visitors. Senior keeper Kristin Doeberl made four saves as the Blue improved to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC.

Stanton broke a scoreless tie with just 1:10 left in the first half. She added her second goal in the 55th minute to give Wellesley a 2-0 lead. SC’s Goetz scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Cara Reilly (Lenoxdale, Mass.) in the 57th minute to close the gap to 2-1, but Wellesley senior forward Satya Twena added an insurance goal in the 77th minute.
