Springfield, Mass. - January 25, 2014 - The Springfield College women's track & field team won six events on Saturday as the host school placed second out of 11 teams.
Ramapo took first in the team standings with 121.50 points, Springfield was second with 81 points and American International was third with 77 points. Trinity (76 points), Worcester State (43), Westfield State (40), RPI (39), Stevens Institute (28.50), Eastern Connecticut State (24), Assumption (17) and CCNY (6) rounded out the 11 team field.
Gabby Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) and Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) were both double event winners to lead Springfield. Gaudreault took the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 58.44 and the 1000 meter run with a first place time of 3:02.90. Martin swept both the long jump (17-05.50) and the triple jump (37-04.50) with personal bests in both events. She now ranks fifth nationally in the triple jump and 23rd in the long jump.
Also winning for the Pride was Sam Pomroy (Lebanon, Maine). The sophomore won the 600 meter run with a time of 1:40.55. The 4x800 meter relay team of Pomroy, Abigail Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.), Elizabeth Beauregard (West Newbury, Mass.) and Stephanie Williams (Simsbury, Conn.) ran a winning time of 10:19.54.
Wright also ran well in the mile, taking runner-up in 5:26.08. The Pride had a pair of third place relay teams to round out the day. The 4x200 meter relay team of Gaudreault, Darian Dailey (East Providence, R.I.), Colleen Rice (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Saia (Wallingford, Conn.) ran a combined time of 1:50.63. The 4x400 meter relay team of Gaudreault, Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.), Kimeisha Winkle and Katherine Saia (Wallingford, Conn.) finished in 4:18.48.
