Headley Repeats As USTFCCCA Division III New England Regional Outdoor Track Athlete of The Year New Orleans, La. - May 24, 2010 - For the second-consecutive year, Springfield College's Steve Headley was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England Regional Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, as voted by the division’s coaches.

Overall, there were 64 winners among in separate categories assigned to track athletes and field athletes as well as head coaches and assistant coaches for eight regions across the entire country.

This season, Headley, a senior from Wilbraham, Mass., has been hard to beat in the 2010 outdoor track & field season. He won New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters, setting conference records in both, as he was selected as the NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year. He also recorded top finishes in the Division III New England Championships in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4100 meters, and won Eastern College Athletic Conference titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters, both in record times.

Headley has had a remarkable career at Springfield, especially in his junior and senior campaigns. Last year, Headley became the first member of Springfield men's track and field program to have been selected as a New England Athlete of the Year as he took home the New England Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honor, which he also won this year.

Last year, Headley was crowned the national champion in the indoor 55 meters and the outdoor 100 meter dash. This season, Headley took second in the 55 during the indoor national championship and will be a contender in both the 100 and 200 in this weekend's outdoor championship.

Ken Klatka Ken Klatka, an associate professor of physical education at Springfield College, will enter his 38th season as head coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for an impressive .743 winning percentage.
