Marisa Clapp Earns Third All-American Award At NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Springfield Mass., May 27, 2002- Springfield College sophomore Marisa Clapp (Winchendon, Mass.) finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday (May 25) to win All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Women’s Track and Field Championship hosted by Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Clapp crossed the finish line in 4:39.43 to earn her third All-America honor of the year. She finished 12th out of 213 runners at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship last fall, and ran to a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship this past winter.

Wartburg (Iowa) College freshman Missy Buttry won the event in a stadium-record 4:30.87.

Pride junior Erin Pac (Farmington, Conn.) finished tenth in the pentathlon competition, totaling 4,304 points over the two-day event.

Springfield finished tied for 55th with three points in the team competition, while Wheaton (Mass.) College won its second-straight championship with 67 points.

Sophomore Nick Laprade (Pawtucket, R.I.), the lone men’s competitior, finished tenth in the hammer throw with a 170 foot, 11 inch effort.
