Announced on Monday afternoon, the Pride earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The last time Springfield played for an ECAC Championship was in the 2004 season. This year, the Pride hold a record of 20-15, the second 20-win season in the last three years.
Springfield will host fifth seeded Framingham State in the quarterfinal game of the ECAC tournament on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.. The Rams are 20-18 on the season and fell in the MASCAC semifinals to Westfield State this weekend. Springfield fell to MIT in the NEWMAC tournament in a best-of-three series.
This season, the Pride have been led by starting pitcher Travis Lane (Canton, Conn.), who owns a 4-2 record and an ERA of 2.47. Peter Baranski (Hamden, Conn.) has anchored the relievers all season, holding a 2-0 record with an ERA of 2.30 and six saves. At the plate, Springfield has been led by the hot bat of senior catcher Sean Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.), who is hitting .376 on the year.
