Men's Track and Field Places Fourth at ECAC Championships

Medford, Mass. - March 7, 2009 - The Springfield College men's indoor track and field team finished fourth at the 2009 ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at Tufts University. Springfield finished with 37 points in a field of 50 teams.

Steve Headley continued to prove he is one of the fastest sprinters in the country as he won the 55-meter dash in a sensational time of 6.26. Headley re-established the fastest time in the country, which was a 6.28 that he ran last weekend. The junior blew away the competition as the next faster sprinter clocked in a 6.38. Headley's time of 6.26 is also a new ECAC record.

In the 1000 meter run, the Pride had two great showings, led by Mike Griffin's winning time of 2:29.82. Teammate Stephen Creamer clocked in a time of 2:33.36 as he finished in sixth place.

Brian Fuller had a great peformance for the Pride as he crossed the finish line second in the 3000 meter run in 8:40.19. SC's 4x400 relay of Nickel Hay, Kevin Behlmer, Tom Brognano, and Matt Amendola also scored points as it finished eighth in 3:25.98

Ken Klatka Ken Klatka, an associate professor of physical education at Springfield College, will enter his 38th season as head coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for an impressive .743 winning percentage.
