NEW LONDON, CONN.--Sophomore Jimmy Lisowski allowed just three hits and one run and did not walk a batter while striking out 10 in five innings while the Springfield College baseball team scored in each of the first six innings enroute to its first conference win of the season, a 13-5 victory over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Springfield (5-13, 1-4), which has now won three straight, scored in each of the first six innings taking a 13-1 lead, more than enough for Lisowksi (Warwick, Mass.) who improved to 2-3 on the season. Senior righthander Derek Hodder (Hamden, Conn.) worked the final four innings for the Pride, allowing six hits, four runs, two earned, while walking one and striking out three.Senior outfielder Chris Stack (Albany, N.Y.) was 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI’s while junior Casey Federico (Agawam, Mass.) and junior Ryan Hingston (Windsor, Vt.) each added three hits and an RBI for Springfield. Junior Tim Romeo (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a double and three RBI’s while senior Jeff Hewes (Groton, Conn.) had two hits as the Pride totaled 16 hits in the game.
Adam Reckley was 3 for 4 for Coast Guard (9-11, 0-4) while Christian George belted his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the first, the only run Lisowski allowed.
Coast Guard starter Tony Guido (1-4) was knocked out in the fifth inning after allowing nine runs, seven earned. Jacob Pitchford worked 2.3 innings and allowed four unearned runs on four hits while Adam Reckley allowed just a walk over the final two innings.
Each team made five errors in the game as six of Springfield’s runs were unearned and two of Coast Guard’s runs were unearned.
