Men's Soccer Shuts Down Endicott in 0-0 Draw

Brett Bascom Box Score

Beverly, Mass. - September 20, 2011 - The Springfield College men's soccer team posted their fifth shutout of the season as they grinded out yet another 0-0 tie on the road at Endicott on Tuesday evening in non-conference play.

Springfield, which entered tonight's game tied for fifth in the New England rankings according to this week's NSCAA Regional Poll, remains unbeaten with a 4-0-3 record. The tie brings Endicott's record to 0-5-1.

Freshman Brett Bascom has been a product of a rock solid Springfield defensive unit that has allowed just four goals in seven games. Bascom has now gone 465 minutes this season without surrendering a goal. He made two saves in tonight's draw.

Through 90 minutes of regulation, both teams were evenly matched with Springfield holding a slight edge in shot attempts, 9-to-8. The Pride, however, forced Endicott’s freshman keeper Aaron Kanter to make four saves while the Gulls struggled to get any of their shot attempts on net.

Neither team attempted a shot in the first overtime but in the second overtime, both teams had quality attempts to score the golden goal. Springfield freshman midfielder Zach Dutter had two bids at the net with one sailing wide right and the other, a rocket fired directly at Kanter for the save.

Endicott saw sophomore forward Alex Elia kick right-footed blasts at the net, but one was saved by Bascom and the other was defensive save at the post made by sophomore midfielder Scott Morneault. Gulls freshman Stephen Joyce attempted Endicott’s last shot attempt on goal but Bascom made the save to preserve the 0-0 tie.

The Pride are next in action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to take on rival Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
