Finch and O'Connor Earn NEWBA Accolades

Corey Finch and Lauren O'Connor Earn NEWBA Honors South Hadley, Mass. - March 12, 2009 - Seniors Corey Finch and Lauren O'Connor were recognized for their outstanding final seasons for the Springfield College women's basketball team by the New England Women's Basketball Assocation (NEWBA).

Finch was named to the NEWBA All-Region Second Team, while her and O'Connor were both selected to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic. The Classic is a game consisting of the top seniors in the region and will be hosted by Western New England College on March 28.

Finch, who hails from Hanover, Pa., had a terrific senior season as she led the Pride to a 16-11 record, including a 10-3 mark in conference play. For the season, Finch averaged 15.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9% from the floor. Finch was especially accurate from the free throw line, shooting 72-for-85 (84.7%) for the season . She added 55 assists and 38 steals on the year as well. While starting in all 27 games this season, Finch scored in double figures in 25 contests, reached the 20-point plateau on five occasions, and also registered 10 double doubles.

A product of Valhalla, N.Y., O'Connor concluded her career as one of the finest post players in program history. She became the 13th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau as she finished her career with 1,156 points, which ranks 7th all-time. She also recorded 962 rebounds in her career, which ranks second-best in the program's record books. For the year, she tallied 10.3 points and grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game as she started all 27 games for the Pride. O'Connor connected on 49.3% of her shots from the floor for the season and shot 79.4% from the free throw line.
