BOSTON, September 27, 2005 - Springfield College junior Meghan Kelly (Queensbury, N.Y.) picked up yet another victory at #2 singles, defeated Simmons College's Meagan Bassett in straight-sets (6-0, 6-3), but the Pride fell at Simmons on Tuesday afternoon, 6-3, in Boston, Mass.
Kelly has been on a tear for SC as of late from the #2 singles position, as the junior has won her past five consecutive matches. In singles play this season, Kelly has compiled an impressive record of 7-2. Senior Angela Giles (Concord, N.H.) also picked up a singles victory for the Pride, winning 6-2, 6-4 over Ally Kukla.
In doubles action, Kelly and freshman Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) were victorious in their #1 doubles match, 9-7. The loss drops SC to 3-6 overall on the season as the Pride remains 2-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
SC will next begin a streak of three consecutive NEWMAC matches, starting with a home contest against MIT on Saturday afternoon, October 1, in a 1:00 p.m. start at the Appleton Courts.Doubles:
