Boxscore

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y., September 9, 2006 - Springfield College junior forward Colin Cook (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored a hat trick and added an assist as the Pride downed Lasell College, 5-0, this afternoon in the semifinal round of the 2006 Cardinal Classic, hosted by SUNY-Plattsburgh.

With the win, its first of the 2006 campaign, SC improves to 1-2-1 and will move on to face Plattsburgh State in the championship match of the Cardinal Classic on Sunday afternoon, September 10th, in a 2:30 p.m. start. SUNY Plattsburgh, ranked third overall in the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Poll this year, advanced with a 2-0 win over Baruch in the second semifinal this afternoon.

Cook got things going early for the Pride in this semifinal match-up, scoring two goals within the first 16 minutes of action, at 7:15 and 15:57, respectively, to give SC a quick, 2-0 edge. Both of Cook's scores were assisted by freshman Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.), the rookie's first two assists of his collegiate career.

The Pride would tack on two more goals before the first half ended, as junior forward Chad Bonnell (Hazlet, N.J.) scored his first goal of the season in the 18th minute of play (17:51) off a feed from Cook. Junior Ted Feeley (Syracuse, N.Y.) would then put SC up by a four-goal margin in the 27th minute of action (26:29) with his first score of the year. The assist on Feeley's goal was credited to junior forward Joe Greenwood (Pelham, N.H.).

The lone score of the second stanza was netted by Cook, as he finished off a feed from sophomore back Dan Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.). That would prove to be the final, as SC won by a convincing five goals. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del.) recorded his first victory and shutout of the season, saving two Laser shots on goal.

For Cook, the junior forward has now scored a team-best four goals in four Pride matches, and that, coupled with his one assist, gives him a total of nine offensive points thus far in 2006. SC outshot Lasell by an impressive 24-3 in the match, as the Lasers fall to 1-2 on the year.
