Smolinski and McGayhey Named ECAC Division III New England Region Volleyball All-Stars

Tessa Smolinski and Kelsey McGayhey Named ECAC Volleyball All-Stars Centerville, Mass. - December 13, 2013 - The postseason accolades keep rolling in for members of the Springfield College women's volleyball team. Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) and Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2013 Division III New England Volleyball All-Star Teams.

Smolinski earned first team honors while McGayhey was named to the second team.

Earlier this week, Smolinski was named Capital One Academic All-American® of the Year. She was selected as the top player in the nation, in terms of both athletic and academic accomplishment as the Communication Sciences and Disorders major currently owns a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average.

She was also named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Second-Team All-American for the second-straight year. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Year has had another remarkable campaign, totaling a team-best 370 kills on a .316 clip. She led the team with 328 digs and has added 29 aces and 29 blocks and reached a significant milestone this season, becoming just the fourth player in program history with 1,500 kills. Smolinski also garnered NEWVA All-New England First Team honors this season.

McGayhey had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Pride on the right side, earning AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America accolades. This season, she accounted for 266 kills while hitting .373, including 13 matches where she hit .500 or better, and ranked third on the team with 49 blocks. McGayhey was also named to the NEWVA All-New England Second Team this year.
