Springfield, Mass - November 1, 2011 - In a thrilling final 12:43 minutes of action, the Mount Holyoke field hockey team prevailed over host Springfield College in a critical New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Stagg Field on Tuesday. The Lyons scored with 1:15 left in regulation to win the contest that was suspended due to snow last Saturday.

With the win, Mount Holyoke locked up the second seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship and improves to 12-4, 6-2 in league play. The Pride secured the fourth seed in the loss and now stands at 4-13, 4-4. Springfield will host WPI on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm in quarterfinal action.

The visitors got on the board first on Saturday, scoring 11:17 into the contest. Off a corner, Shara Robertson hit Kirsten Kilburn at the top of the arc. Kilburn zipped a pass to Jess Fajardo who promplty snuck it past Pride goalie Grace Bibber for the 1-0 advantage.

After a two day hiatus due to a winter storm in the area, action picked up in a hurry on Tuesday evening. Springfield's Kelly Gallo tied the game at one-all at the 65:07 mark on her team-leading ninth goal of the year. After Meghan McHugh's shot was saved on the goal line by Kilburn, Gallo gathered the rebound and slammed home the tying marker.

However, the Lyons regrouped and scored with just 1:15 to claim the league win. Kilburn let loose a shot following a Robertson corner, only to be slapped out of the air by Bibber. Robertson collected the rebound and flicked the ball over the right shoulder of Bibber into the upper left corner of the cage to complete the win.

Mount Holyoke owned a 16-10 edge in shots and a 16-3 edge in corners. Bibber made six saves for the Pride, while Gibson posted three saves in the win.
