Wrestling Places Fifth at the Ithaca Invitational; Fusco Captures the Heavyweight Championship

Ithaca, N.Y. -- November 8, 2010 -- The Springfield College wrestling team finished fifth in its opening tournament of the season, the Ithaca Invitational, this past Saturday and Sunday.

Ithaca was the overall winner with 191 points, followed by Centenary with 175.5 points, followed by Cortland (156.5), Johnson & Wales (110.0), and Springfield (104.0).

Senior Ron Fusco (Billerica, Mass.) was the Pride's premier performer as he won the heavyweight classification with a 5-0 record. Fusco defeated #1-seeded JD Zitone of Centenary in the championship match.

There were several others who placed well for SC. They included senior Eddie Giron (Bethpage, N.Y.) in fourth place at 133; junior Ryan McGilvray (Manalapan, N.J.) in sixth at 149; senior Brandon Sundwall (Guilford, Conn.), fifth at 174; and sophomore Nicholas Camera (No. Massapequa, N.Y.), fifth at 184.
