ALBANY, N.Y., October 16, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore T.J. Potenza and junior Alyssa Brigham led all Pride cross country runners at the 40th annual UAlbany Invitational this afternoon, which included schools from Division I, II and III.
As a team, the Springfield men placed 17th of 27 with a score of 451, two places better than last year, in a solid showing against Division I talent. The SC women finished 21st of 22 teams with a score of 619.
On the men’s side, Potenza, a sophomore from Cranston, R.I., finished 81st out of 220 runners in the 8000-meter race. Behind him were sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) (91st, 26:55), junior Ian Wright (Colonie, N.Y.) (96th, 27:02), junior Jeff Bartlett (West Newbury, Mass.) (107th, 27:21), and rounding out SC’s top five was senior Ryan Palmison (Plymouth, N.H.) (119th, 27:37).
On the women’s side, Brigham, who hails from Penacook, N.H., finished with a time of 19:49.5 in the 5000-meter race. Sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) (115th, 20:47.3), sophomore Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.) (135th, 22:14.1), freshman Rachel Setless (Fairlawn, N.J.) (144th, 23:27.7), and freshman Catherine Croce (Walkill, N.Y.) (145th, 23:42.1) finished off the top five for the SC women.
Both the women and the men will be getting ready for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships which will be held in two weeks, on October 28th, at Mount Holyoke College.
