Men's Gymnastics Finishes Second at 2011 New England Invitational Championships

Ty Evans Springfield, Mass. -- February 20, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's gymnastics team today hosted the 2011 New England Men's Gymnastics Invitational Championships at Blake Arena. Springfield College has the only collegiate men's varsity team in New England. Tim Daggetts' Club proved to be the team victor, with Springfield College finishing second, and the College at Brockport third.

Also competing in this meet were club participants from R&R, Andy Valley, In-Flight Gymnastics, Tri-Town, Guigeres, US Academy, Ellis School of Gymnastics, Old Colony, and from Boston University, MIT, the University of Southern Maine, and the University of Vermont.

The final team standings were as follows: 1) Daggetts (327.600), 2) Springfield College (323.050), 3) Brockport (285.000), 4) Ellis (281.200), 5) Tri-Town (267.000), 6) R&R (265.300), and 7) Vermont (206.250).

Capturing the all-around competition was Ty Evans from Springfield College with a score of 83.550. In second was Jon Deaton of Daggetts (82.600), followed by Paul Wood of Daggetts (81.650), Brett Lazarus of MIT (79.450), Jake Shapiro of MIT (79.400), and Patrick Ryther of Ellis.

Evans had a particularly outstanding meet, not only winning the all-around, but also finishing first in the vault (15.350) and the parallel bars (14.300). He also placed second in the high bar (14.200), third in the floor exercise (14.200), and fifth in the still rings (13.100).

Jimmy Pezzino of SC finished second in the floor exercise (14.300), and third in the vault (14.700). Another member of the Pride, Ryan Ponce, took first in the still rings (14.200), and fourth in the parallel bars (13.400). Finally, Garrett DeSantis also finished in the Top Six on two occasions -- fifth in the high bar (13.200), and sixth in the pommel horse (12.900).
