No. 16 Wrestling Defeats Oswego, Falls To Heidelberg And York At Budd Whitehill

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., January 15, 2006 – Senior 174-pounder Scott Faivre won all three of his bouts, but the Springfield College wrestling team managed to win only once while losing on two other occasions today at the Budd Whitehill National Dual Tourney at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Overall, Springfield, ranked #16 in the nation and #1 in New England Division III, was seeded 8th in this prestigious tourney, and true to form finished 8th.

Faivre, who hails from East Islip, N.Y. and attended East Islip High School, recorded a majority decision (over Oswego State) and a pin (over York (Pa.)) among his three wins at 174.

In the day’s first dual-meet, SC defeated #15-ranked Oswego State, 22-21, winning that match on criteria. Springfield was down 12-0 after just two bouts in that one. Later, it was #11 Heidelberg 19, Springfield 13. The Pride led 10-0 after three bouts in that one. And finally, it was #9 York 25, Springfield 19.

By going 1-2 on the day, Springfield is now 4-5. The Budd Whitehill Duals included 20 teams. Finishing first was Loras, followed by TCNJ, host Lycoming, Cortland State, Heidelberg, Wabash, York, and Springfield.
