Women's Track and Field Finishes Second of Four at RPI in 2007 Outdoor Season Opener

TROY, N.Y. – March 31, 2007-- In the first meet of the 2007 outdoor season, the Springfield College women’s track and field team traveled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where they finished second of four competing schools.

Sophomore Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.) and freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) led the Pride, finding wins in multitude. Both women qualified for several New England area championships in each of their respective events.

Springfield ended the event with 146 points, a close second behind host RPI which finished with 188. College of Saint Rose tied Plattsburgh for a distant third with 29 points each.

Hay took first in three individual events, as well as in the 4 x 100 relay in which she ran the lead-off leg. Hay found her success in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.33, and in the long jump (5.33m) and triple jump (11.20m). Both jumps were Hay’s personal bests for the year.

Parente received her individual honors in the 200-meter dash (26.96), and the 400- meter dash (1:00.62). She also anchored the winning relay team.

The two women are now qualified in all the above mentioned events for the New England Div. III Championships, which will be held at Springfield College May 4-5, the All-Division New England Championships, and the ECAC Division III championships.

Several other Springfield College athletes won events on the day. Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) won the high jump (1.52m), while Adrienne Sayward (Salem, N.H) blew away her competition in the javelin throw (34.45), and Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) took the 1500-meter run by a full nine seconds (4:58.51).

Other notable finishes by Springfield College athletes included that of Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, R.I.), who finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.64. Amanda DiPaolo (Garrison, N.Y.) also came home with a third place finish, this time in the 1500 (5:09.20), as did Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) in the 800 (2:32.87) and Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) in the high jump (1.42m).

Robertson placed well in two other events as she took second in both the triple jump (10.27m) and javelin throw (25.04). Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) also had a second place finish, going 42.09m in the hammer throw.

The women will return to action Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m., when they host Middlebury, Westfield State, and Smith at SC’s Blake Field.
