April 21, 2004 - Springfield College senior Chris Sweeney (Wakefield, Mass.)
won at #3 singles and #2 doubles, but Babson defeated SC, 4-3, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s tennis action today on Appleton Courts.
Senior Yuta Yoshi (Yokosuka, Japan)
won his #1 singles match in compelling fashion, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Justin Freitas (East Providence, R.I.)
lost a heartbreaker, 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 (11-9) but won at #2 doubles with Sweeney.
For Babson, junior Jon Martin (Watchung, N.J.)
won both his #1 doubles match and his #3 singles match. Junior Mike Brooks(Hagerstown, Md.)
won his #1 doubles match with Martin. Senior Gabriel Ackerman (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
won at #2 singles for the Beavers.
The Beavers improve to 11-8 (4-2 NEWMAC) while the Pride fallS to 4-6 (3-3 NEWMAC).

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
