Men's Gymnastics Downs Army, 335.100 to 331.800

Rich Ruggiero Springfield, Mass. -- March 6, 2011 --Led by Ty Evans, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team defeated the U.S. Military Academy this afternoon at SC's Blake Arena by a score of 335.100 to 331.800. It was SC's highest point total of the year.

SC's previous best team score this season was 333.500 versus Temple on Friday, February 25 at Blake Arena.

Evans, a junior from San Jose, Calif., tied his best all-around score of the year with an 85.300 in the all-around. In second was Army sophomore Kip Webber (Boxborough, Mass.) with a score of 84.100.

Evans finished first in the high bar (14.400), tied for second in the vault (15.900), tied for second in the parallel bars (14.000), placed fourth in the floor exercise (14.400), fourth in the still rings (13.500), and fourth in the pommel horse (13.100).

Jimmy Pezzino, a sophomore from Buffalo, N.Y., also had a good day for SC. He finished first in the floor exercise (15.100), second in the high bar (13.700), and tied for second in the vault (15.900)

Freshman Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) captured the still rings for the Pride in 15.100.

Winners for Army included Webber in the vault (16.100), junior Brandon Long (Fayetteville, N.C.) in the parallel bars (14.200), and sophomore Garrek Hojan-Clark (Brookfield, Wisc.) in the pommel horse (14.500).
