SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 11, 2005- Springfield College senior Meghan Young has been named this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s cross country Runner of the Week for the week ending October 9, 2005.

Young, who hails from Hurley, N.Y., finished 16th out of 301 overall runners at this past weekend’s (Oct. 8) Open New England Championships in Boston’s Franklin Park. Young, who was competing against some of the best Division I, II and III runners in the New England region, covered the rain-soaked 5k course in a time of 18:34, placing her sixth amongst all Division III runners and first amongst all NEWMAC competitors.

This is the second time this season that the senior has been named NEWMAC Runner of the Week. Young last won the award back on September 19, 2005, when she finished second out of 264 runners at the Dartmouth Invitational.

Next up for the Pride is the Albany Invitational as SC will travel to Albany, N.Y., for the meet on Saturday, October 15.
