Worcester, Mass. - October 29, 2011 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 173-119 victory on the road at Holy Cross as it opened up its season on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield had several double winners both in the pool and on the diving boards to help them to the comfortable win. Laura Hartford won the 1,000 free in 11:23.83 and the 500 free in 5:35.01, while Caroline Kosciusko out-touched the competition in the 200 free in 2:00.45 and also won the 100 free in 55.53.
Kelsey Poole dominated the backstroke event as she took the 100 back with a time of 1:04.46 before winning the 200 back in 2:15.84. Reigning NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year Kellie Pennington blew past the competition to win the 50 free in 24.30 and clocked in at 1:01.17 in the 100 fly.
In the diving competition, Paige Rhodes was victorious on both boards as she won the one-meter (238.87) and the three-meter (252.60).
Other top performers on the day included Janella Cuyler, who swam a 1:12.85 to win the 100 breast to win the event. Jennifer Carignan earned first-place points in the 200 breast after touching in 2:37.00, and Breonna Harrington swam a 2:22.53 in the 200 IM.
