Men's Cross Country Finishes 16th of 45 Teams at NCAA Division III New England Regionals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 11, 2006 – Springfield College hosted the 2006 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s New England Regional Cross Country Championships today at Veterans Golf Course. Finishing first for the Pride in the men’s 8k race was sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) with a time of 26:29.9. Junior Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) was the top finisher for the SC women, completing the 6k course in 24:18.7.

The results of the championship event concluded with the SC men finishing 16th out of 45 teams and the Pride women’s team placing 24th among the 48 schools in the race.

Griffin’s time of 26:29.9 was the 29th-best individual time among the men’s participants, as the sophomore was named to the NCAA Division III All-New England Region Team for his performance. Junior Ian Wright (Colonie, N.Y.) crossed the finish for the Pride in 73rd-place overall (27:29.3), while sophomore T.J. Potenza (Cranston, R.I.) clocked a time of 27:32.1, good for 76th place. Also competing in the event for the Pride was senior Patrick Gann (Guilford, Conn.) (27:53.6), senior Nate McMahan (Millis, Mass.) (28:00.1), junior Jeff Bartlett (West Newbury, Mass.) (28:17.3), and senior Ryan Palmison (Plymouth, N.H.) (28:53.3). Individual results had Gann finishing 98th, McMahan 107th, Bartlett 119th, and Palmison 137th. Overall there were 309 runners who competed in the men’s race.

Brigham’s time of 24:18.7 was the 78th-best individual time in the women’s race. Junior Jess Borsotti (Westfield, Mass.) was the next Pride competitor to cross the finish at 24:55, resulting in an 111th-place finish. Sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) completed the 6k course in 25:30.3, 126th among all women. Other runners on the SC women’s team were freshman Rachel Setless (Fairlawn, N.J.) (28:37.5), sophomore Christina Slot (Cheshire, Conn.) (29:01.2), and freshman Emma Lang (Woodstock, N.Y.) (31:42.6). Setless’ finish was 233rd individually, while Slot was 248th, and Lang was 288th. Overall there were 321 women who competed in the championships.
